Hervey Bay Wetside Water Education Park Partner: Wide Bay Water Value: $5m Sector: Commercial Location: Qld Building Australia’s largest interactive water play park required a close working relationship with specialist contractors. For this foreshore site we also took care with erosion, significant tree protection and Indigenous heritage, and came up with innovative ways to drill 6m pier holes into sand. SGCH Hoxton Park Road, Cartwright Partner: St George Community Housing Value: $9.7m Sector: Social Housing Location: NSW Winning the Urban Taskforce’s Affordable Development Award for our partners, this 6-storey project comprised 31 one- and two-bedroom units. It also gained a 6-star NatHERS rating due to the energy efficiency of high-performance floor and ceiling insulation and glass, and shading elements to windows. Belconnen Theatre Partner: ACT Government Value: $13.5m Sector: Commercial Location: ACT The state-of-the-art performance space extended the existing arts centre. Set on Lake Ginninderra’s foreshore, it was built on fill material and did not require piers, however the build was on a single level and rose 11m requiring coordination to avoid subcontractors working over each other. Euroka Apartments Partner: Welsend Infotech Value: $15m Sector: Residential Location: NSW Two 5-level wings separated by an internal landscaped courtyard are the hallmarks of this Killara build for our partners. Developed with a mix of bedroom configurations and two basement car parking levels, the 44-apartment complex includes high-quality finishes and an undercover bike parking area. Botanica Residences Partner: Aria Property Group Value: $45m Sector: Residential – High Rise Location: Qld This multi-award-winning building comprises Queensland’s largest residential green wall which marks the transition from ground floor retail to the 180 apartments across the remaining 19 storeys. With an extensive photovoltaic system, it became the largest multi-residential project to receive UDIA six-leaf sustainability certification. Ginninderry master-planned community builds Partner: ACT Government/Corkhill Family and PBS-own builds Value: $15m Sector: Residential Location: ACT Ginninderry is the first master-planned community to bridge the NSW/ACT border. When complete, it will provide around 12,000 dwellings. We delivered initial display homes and have since assisted the developer with design management and completed multiple townhouse and affordable living complexes. Radford College stages 1-3 Partner: Radford College Value: $17.6m Sector: Education Location: ACT Our demolition, design and construction teams provided classrooms and amenities over two floors of the active junior school in stage 1. DDA-compliant works to the years 3 & 4 building followed, winning the 2019 MBA People’s Choice Award. Stage 3 produced senior school classrooms, offices and parking. Latitude25 RV Lifestyle community Partner: PBS Building/Nikenbah Constructions Value: $90m Sector: Retirement Living Location: Qld Built on a greenfield site, this UDIA award-winning project of 281 single-level homes boasts 16m x 6m garages and an average 7.5-star energy rating. The homes’ metal frames also have deconstruction points to comply with land lease regulations. Amenities include a clubhouse and two biofiltering lakes. St George Community Housing, Elizabeth Drive Liverpool Partner: St George Community Housing Value: $14.8m Sector: Social Housing Location: ACT Working with our long-term partners St George Community Housing, we delivered an airy, modern 5-storey building of 49 apartments earmarked for vulnerable people in the suburb and surrounding region. Wheller on the Park stages 3 & 4 Partner: Wesley Mission Value: $66.6m Sector: Independent Living Units Location: Qld After completing 8 free-standing villas and 76 apartments in an operating retirement village our partners had us extend the leisure centre with a bowling green, theatre, gym and bbq area. In stage 4, we added two more buildings providing 148 apartments, car parking and more leisure centre upgrades. Goodwin Farrer Aged Care Partner: Goodwin Aged Care Services Value: $115m Sector: Health and Aged Care Location: ACT Among the challenges we overcame in this $115m four-year project for Goodwin Farrer Aged Care was building in a live environment where residents’ safety and comfort were uppermost priorities. Crace master-planned community builds Partner: Crace Developments Pty Ltd; CIC Crace Pty Ltd; Defence Housing Australia and individual clients Value: $80m Sector: Residential Location: ACT We not only built, fitted out and landscaped the Crace Sales and Information Centre, but also constructed all of the homes in the urban precinct of this new environmentally conscious suburb. Among these were the Abena apartment complex and 135 homes in The Central for Goodwin Aged Care Services. Annandale Place Partner: Neldale Pty Ltd/David Harper Value: $15.5m Sector: Residential Location: NSW Raw finishes including steel, concrete and timber are a nod to the area’s industrial past in this project of 21 loft-style apartments, 7 three-bedroom terraces and a basement carpark. With two street frontages and close neighbours, we fostered strong lines of communication to expedite the build. Cooper Lodge stages 1 & 2 Partner: University of Canberra Value: $71.4m Sector: Education Location: ACT Our design, construction and landscaping of 3 buildings to accommodate 913 students comprised an initial 8-storey building linked by bridges to a 4-storey building plus ground floor retail space. Stage 2 accommodation also included retail, office space, and amenities such as sheltered bike storage. Coastal Waters stages 8-11 Partner: Lendlease Retirement Living Value: $17m Sector: Independent Living Units Location: NSW Meeting our partner’s exacting standards, we handed over 119 high-quality independent living units through four stages of this project. In stage 9 of the build, we had to account for the adjacent heritage ruins of the c1830 Old Erowal Farm House which have been incorporated in the village gardens. Castle student accomodation Partner: Affordable Habitats Value: $7.9m Sector: Education Location: NSW Our team got resourceful on this boundary-to-boundary build along an arterial road and abutting a one-way street. We rented a house for our site operations office; had a circular delivery process; and met regularly with neighbours. The resulting ‘smart’ building has set new standards for the sector. Kellyville Residential Aged Care Facility Partner: Moran Health Care Group Value: $26.7m Sector: Health and Aged Care Location: NSW In stage 1 of this project, we delivered civil infrastructure under supervision of the Hills Council. Stage 2 was construction of the new facility on a green fill site with water-sensitive urban design to council requirements. The complex is over two levels and 96 units are on level 1 with 52 of these being in a secure dementia wing. Engadine Residential Aged Care Facility Partner: Moran Health Care Group Value: $31m Sector: Health and Aged Care Location: NSW We built this 8-level facility on an existing council car park and handed 45 spaces back for public parking. Our planning allowed us to link the facility with an adjacent community centre, effectively extending the town square and creating a pedestrian thoroughfare through the centre of Engadine. The Ponds Retirement Village Partner: Anglicare Value: $30m Sector: Independent Living Units Location: NSW Step-free and liveable housing silver-star-rated, the 75 architecturally designed independent living units we built here were also adaptable-housing compliant and pet friendly. We delivered a mix of two- and three-bedroom villas; a community centre; workshop building; and specialist landscaping. The Melbourne Residences Partner: Aria Property Group Value: $55.3m Sector: Residential – High Rise Location: Qld Having won multiple awards, this 180-apartment high-rise stands out in the cityscape thanks to a stepped construction and undulating façade which we produced to realise the architect’s vision of wind-driven ripple patterns. The building also houses a residents’ rooftop club and ground-level retail. The Quarterdecks Partner: A PBS Build Value: $12.5m Sector: Residential Location: Qld Winner of two MBA awards in the low-rise multi-residential and outdoor living and landscaping categories, this secure gated community comprises 61 two- and three-bedroom luxury villas. The build included a communal pool, spa, sauna, barbecue and entertaining areas. Macquarie University student accommodation Partner: Macquarie University Value: $33.3m Sector: Education Location: NSW On an undulating, 4.6ha greenfield site we designed, constructed and furnished 114 student residences and completed the project 7 months early thanks to innovative techniques that included clustering the units to follow ground contours. We also provided civil and services infrastructure. Toolangi Community Housing Partner: ACT Government Value: $21m Sector: Social Housing Location: ACT To help meet the goal of producing more sustainable housing solutions for people in need we delivered 66 adaptable Class-C two-bedroom apartments across four buildings with communal parklands and basement parking. We modified some units to better meet individual tenants’ needs as they age in place. Felix8 International Hotel (now Citadines Connect) Partner: Baxter Unit Trust Value: $28m Sector: Commercial Location: NSW At our designers’ suggestion, our partners agreed to reverse the layout of this 13-storey hotel to capture views over Sydney Airport from a cantilevered penthouse floor which provides reception, restaurant, terrace and conference rooms. Vertical gardens screen four parking levels, and cost-efficient bathroom pods were prefabricated off site. Fraser Coast Culture Centre Partner: Fraser Coast Regional Council Value: $5.8m Sector: Commercial Location: Qld Creative construction on this gallery and discovery centre included 500m2 of specialised zinc cladding and concrete tilt panels with specialised moulds which join to form the Fraser Coast waterways and areas of Indigenous significance. We also placed a 20-tonne whale sculpture in the forecourt.
